Happy Tenacity or…. Happy New Year, World!
One of my favorite quotes is attributed to Maggie Kuhn who said “Speak your truth, even if your voice shakes.” That takes a lot of guts for most of us! I’m getting better about the initial guts part of the equation, but what about after that?
The part when you’ve bared yourself and stand shaking, but depending on the responses you get (or don’t!), the screeching doubt creeps back in. Do you stay out there feeling like an idiot on parade or do you run and dive for the covers?
The official definition of tenacity is persistence, determination, perseverance, resolve, diligence, insistence, relentlessness, constancy. Lots of powerful, strong words! More commonly known as “hang in there” “you can do it”, “you’ve got what it takes & if you actually don’t, you’ll get it!”
I’m here living a story that only I can narrate. My voice, as is yours, is wholly unique. Sure, life goes on if I choose not to live this way. 9.8 times out of 10, people are not thinking “Gee, why doesn’t she just dig in and DO it?!” They are too busy with their own Shshshshtuff.
By having that tenacity and expressing what is in me through living, I am
encouraging others to do the same. We are in this together. As J.F.K. said “a rising tide lifts all boats” and that applies to a lot more than economics.
It’s scary but that’s OK. To my knowledge no one ever literally died of fear or embarrassment. We won’t be swallowed whole by the nay-sayers…we WILL learn to rise above the discomfort, we WILL take a deeper breath and find that energy that can only be found by embracing and sharing our passions with confidence.
This is my path for 2016. To have the Tenacity to manifest all the Good Things that want to emanate from me. In spite of the doubt, fear, laziness, pride, crabbiness (being brutally honest…) You know – all those things that sideline us from living a fully-lived, go-for-it life.
So, Happy Tenacity to you! What are some things you feel you need to push your way through on this year? I’d love to read your comments below and of course feel free to share this with others.
This is the truth Lisa…you’ve nailed it right on the head!! hugs!!
